Welcome to the show! The New England and Atlantic Storytellers Project, which includes Rochester, New York; Asbury Park and Bergen, New Jersey; York, Pennsylvania; and Wilmington, Delaware, presents "Growing Up" at 7 p.m. ET on April 1.
Many of us know from experience that growing up doesn’t come without sometimes awkward, sometimes funny and sometimes even heartbreaking moments. For some of us, it happens all at once. For others, it's a series of subtler moments. And it often comes at the unlikeliest of times.
Join the USA TODAY Network for an hour of true, first-person stories celebrating our youth and the rites of passage on the way to adulthood.
Our storytellers will share their personal stories from their homes, using their devices, and Rochester Democrat & Chronicle Community Engagement Editor Sheila Rayam will emcee live!

What do you hope listeners take away from your story?
The importance of standing up for what you believe in.
Who or what inspired you to tell this story?
My mother inspired me to tell my story.
What do you hope listeners take away from your story?
I hope listeners hear a familiar story that reminds them of a more innocent time before her internet gave us access to everything.
Who or what inspired you to tell this story?
I’ve been telling this story for years as it reflects my childhood and my family.
What do you hope listeners take away from your story?
I hope listeners take away inspiration for a healthy and fit lifestyle, motivation to move their bodies, build their bodies and confidence while looking good and feeling good.
Who or what inspired you to tell this story?
I was motivated and inspired by my own fitness journey realizing the results of hard work, discipline, consistency and persistence.
What do you hope listeners take away from your story?
Some empathy towards non-Americans and respect to the nuances and complexities that people inside cultures have. Not every Puerto Rican feels the same way, not every Latino is the same as me.
Who or what inspired you to tell this story?
All the people who have told me my English is good thinking it’s a compliment. I don’t mean to be petty, I just want people to be more mindful of their words and actions.
What do you hope listeners take away from your story?
Maybe it will spark a good memory of young love and crazy high school days - and a chuckle or two.
Who or what inspired you to tell this story?
The memory of my high school sweetheart, who created a special prom for me and my friends.
